Students FAQ

General

What are digital course materials?

Digital course materials cover a wide range of tools, all the way from a simple e-book to self-assessment tools. Some contain interactive assignments, multimedia presentations and study tools.

Are digital course materials the same as e-books?

Digital course materials can be more than just e-books. E-books are a digital form of a textbook. Digital course materials usually contain interactive content and multimedia in addition to an e-book.

What are access codes?  Do I still need one?

Access codes are not needed for courses offered under StreamlinED. The instructor will grant access to the course in the Learning Management System (LMS). The digital content will be part of the course. The student may be required to register with the publisher's site.

For courses not offered under StreamlinED, access codes may be purchased at the Bookstore or other retailers. Once the code has been purchased and the package has been opened, it cannot be returned. The code is entered in the publisher software (or in the LMS) to gain access to the materials.

How does this program save me money?

Bookstore staff have negotiated the lowest possible price for digital materials in the StreamlinED program. This is done based on volume purchasing. Additionally, the Bookstore is able to lower margins on digital course materials as we do not have the same inventory carrying costs and risks that are associated with traditional textbooks.

If my course isn’t listed as a StreamlinED course, how do I get it added to the program?

Mention the StreamlinED program to the instructor and direct them to the Faculty FAQ page. It takes about 4-6 weeks to work through the process to get a course into the StreamlinED program. We have to negotiate pricing with the publisher, review the content for accessibility, and allow the instructor time to create the course content. This can be shortened if the instructor is already using digital course materials.

Access

When will I be able to see the course materials?

Typically instructors will open access to the digital course materials on the first day of class. However, some may do it sooner or later. This is at the discretion of the course instructor. If you are not able to see digital course materials in the LMS for a StreamlinED class in which you are registered, please contact your instructor.

What if I enroll in the course after the first day of class?

Once enrolled in a course, you are granted access to the course content in the LMS. This will allow you access to the StreamlinED course materials. If you have enrolled in a course but aren't able to access the content, contact your instructor. Billing for the StreamlinED content will automatically be applied to your student account at the same time as related tuition and fees.

Is there any way to get a hard copy or textbook to use instead of the e-book?

If the digital course materials include an e-book, a looseleaf copy will be available to purchase from the Bookstore. You may purchase the looseleaf copy or the textbook outside of the StreamlinED program, but that cost will be in addition to what is already billed for the StreamlinED materials.

Billing

When will I be billed for the course materials?

Billing for the StreamlinED materials will be applied to your university account at the same time as tuition and fees, usually at time of enrollment, just as financial aid awards are being distributed. If you enroll in the course after the first week, you will be billed for the StreamlinED charges at the same time as the related tuition and fees.

What happens if I drop the course?

If you drop a StreamlinED course in the first week of the semester, access to the course will be revoked. Any StreamlinED charges on your bill will be reversed or removed.

If you drop a StreamlinED course in the second week of the semester, access to the course will be revoked. The Bookstore will monitor for drops during the second week and manually credit the account.

If you drop a StreamlinED course after the second week of the semester, please contact the Bookstore. As with our return policy on textbooks, these situations will be handled on a case by case basis.

What if I am retaking a course and previously paid under the StreamlinED program?

Due to the competitive pricing of StreamlinED materials, generally students will pay the StreamlinED charge every time they enroll in a StreamlinED course. Contact the Bookstore if you have questions about this policy or extenuating circumstances with a course retake.

What if I am retaking a course and previously purchased course materials outside of the StreamlinED program?

Due to the competitive pricing of StreamlinED materials, generally students will pay the StreamlinED charge every time they enroll in a StreamlinED course. Contact the Bookstore if you have questions about this policy or extenuating circumstances with a course retake. Include information on when you first took the course and the materials that were purchased.
